Composer & Author Spotlight

Willard A. Palmer authored the core method that defines this series. A prolific composer with 789 published works across multiple instruments and formats, Palmer brought decades of teaching experience into the Prep Course structure, creating a sequence that balances technique, theory, and repertoire in a way that keeps young students engaged.

Amanda Vick Lethco co-authored the world-renowned Alfred's Basic Piano Library alongside Palmer and Morton Manus. A former Professor Emeritus of Piano Pedagogy at the University of Texas at Austin, Lethco studied with major figures including James Friskin at Juilliard and Douglas Moore at Columbia, bringing that deep pedagogical training into every level of the method.

Gayle Kowalchyk, currently on the faculty at California State University, Northridge, developed the Notespeller Book A used widely in this series. Her background in both piano performance and pedagogy, including a doctorate from Columbia University's Teachers College, shapes her approach to notation instruction as something students actively master rather than passively absorb.
