About the Composer: Tanner Otto

Tanner Otto studied Music Education at The Ohio State University and directs orchestra at Sycamore Community Schools in Cincinnati. A violist and violinist, he has long pursued improvisation and genre-blending in his own playing, which informs his arranging and composing work. He champions the use of technology in rehearsal and has presented sessions on GarageBand-based composition and improvisation strategies at the Ohio Music Education Association Conference and other regional gatherings.

Otto serves as Assistant Director at the nation's largest summer string camp, held annually in Moorhead, Minnesota, where he works with over 300 students each August. He presented on summer camp development at the 2019 ASTA National Conference. His compositions and arrangements draw on pop and rock influences, giving them a distinctly contemporary voice. He has been arranging and composing for string ensembles across all sizes for seven years and is published by Alfred Music Publishing.
