Roland Barrett has shaped multiple generations of musicians through his dual role as a theorist and composer at the University of Oklahoma, where he joined the faculty in 2001 following fifteen years as Assistant Director of Bands. His research centers on twentieth-century music, and he teaches both undergraduate and graduate composition and theory courses while continuing to arrange for the Pride of Oklahoma marching band.

With over two hundred published works across symphonic band, chamber ensembles, and marching idioms, Barrett has established himself as a prolific voice in American band music. His compositions have reached audiences through performances by the Dallas Wind Symphony, Honor Bands at state and regional levels, and broadcasts on NPR and national television; his accolades include multiple ASCAP Plus awards and recognition at the Midwest Band & Orchestra Convention and International Trumpet Guild events.
