Douglas E. Wagner, a Chicago native, studied music composition and theory at Butler University and spent thirty years teaching and leading music programs in high schools before transitioning fully to composition. Since 1973, he has published more than 3,500 works across choirs, concert bands, orchestras, handbell ensembles, organ, piano, and vocal settings; his music has sold over seventeen million copies worldwide and regularly appears on radio, television, and concert stages internationally.

Wagner's catalogue reflects his deep understanding of music education at every level. His gift for writing accessible music that doesn't compromise artistic integrity has made him one of the most widely performed contemporary composers in school settings. He lives in Indianapolis with his wife, Sandy.
