Sally K. Albrecht

Sally K. Albrecht has shaped American choral music for over forty years as a composer, conductor, and clinician with a distinctive focus on movement and staging. Her catalog of more than 600 published works reflects her deep understanding of what choirs need: music that sounds excellent, engages singers, and connects to audiences. She spent three decades developing school choral publications for major educational publishers, including Alfred Music, while simultaneously conducting honor choirs at prestigious venues like Lincoln Center, Carnegie Hall, and The Kennedy Center. Her work has earned her the ASCAP Special Music Award annually since 1987.

Albrecht holds degrees from Rollins College (B.A. in Music and Theater, 1976), the University of Miami (M.A. in Drama, 1977, and M.M. in Accompanying, 1979), and has taught at Oakland University, Jersey City State College, and Meredith College. In 2021, she received Distinguished Alumna Awards from both the University of Miami Frost School of Music and Rollins College, where she serves on the Board of Trustees. She lives in Wake Forest, North Carolina, with her husband, composer and arranger Jay Althouse.
