As a longtime instrumental music educator in the Parkland School District and now as Associate Professor of Music at Cairn University, he has shaped the musical lives of thousands of students while developing his voice as a composer across more than 120 published works for concert band, string orchestra, and chamber ensembles.

Watson's music draws equally from his grounding in contemporary classical music and his deep knowledge of what works in ensemble settings.
