About the Composer: Loreta Fin

Loreta Fin AM earned her credentials at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music and established herself early as a first violinist with the Sydney Youth Orchestra. Her 25+ years as Principal Viola player with the Queensland Pops Orchestra, alongside chamber music and orchestral performances with internationally recognized artists, grounded her in the practical demands of ensemble playing across multiple roles.

As Director of Strings at Somerville House School in Brisbane since 1993, Fin has shaped generations of young musicians while composing over 100 works for string orchestra published by Alfred Music. Her deep involvement in the Australian Strings Association (serving as both State and National President), her work as an examiner for the Australian Music Examinations Board, and her regular conducting of State and National Honours Ensembles Programs demonstrate sustained leadership in string education. In 2019, she received the National Award for Services to Music and String Teaching in Australia.
