Variations on a Theme of Benjamin Britten by Sally Beamish is an 18-minute work for string orchestra. The main theme of this work is taken from the second interlude, 'Sunday Morning', from Four Sea Interludes by Benjamin Britten. Commissioned by The Academy of St Martin in the Fields the work celebrates the Academy, exploring its collective virtuosity, and the richness and fullness of its sound. Variations on a Theme of Benjamin Britten was first performed by The Academy of St Martin in the Fields at Turner Sims, Southampton, on 9 May 2013, directed by Stephanie Gonley.
