About the Composer: Brian Balmages

Brian Balmages has built a distinguished career as a composer and conductor working across orchestral, band, and chamber repertoire. His works have reached audiences globally, from Carnegie Hall and the Kennedy Center to the Sydney Opera House and beyond, performed by ensembles at every level from professional orchestras to elementary school groups. He holds membership in the American Bandmasters Association, received the A. Austin Harding Award from the American School Band Directors Association, and won the 2020 NBA William D. Revelli Composition Contest for his composition Love and Light.

Both of Balmages' alma maters have recognized his contributions: James Madison University presented him with its inaugural Distinguished Alumni Award from the School of Visual and Performing Arts, and the University of Miami commissioned him to compose for the inauguration of its 6th president. His music has been performed at significant national events, including the 2013 Presidential Inaugural Prayer Service. As a conductor, he maintains active engagements with all-state ensembles, university orchestras, and professional groups worldwide. Currently, he serves as Director of MakeMusic Publications and Digital Education.
