About the Composer: Adrian B. Sims

Adrian B. Sims was born in Seattle in 2000 and grew up in Catonsville, Maryland, where he first developed his voice as both a musician and composer. His works have appeared at The Midwest Band and Orchestra Clinic and earned recognition on the Bandworld Top 100 List, along with wins in the Maryland Music Educators Association Young Composers Project and the Make Music Young Composers Contest. As a trombonist, he has performed across multiple genres from symphony orchestras to jazz ensembles, and was selected for Maryland All-State Band and performed alongside the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra during his high school years.

Currently pursuing a dual degree in Music Education and Composition at The University of Maryland, Sims studies composition with Dr. Robert Gibson and has been mentored by world-renowned composer Brian Mendes. He credits his band directors Christopher Gnagey and Cindy Stevenson with shaping his musical foundation, and continues to conduct performances of his own works across Maryland schools. His approach to composition balances accessibility with musical substance, creating works that speak meaningfully to young musicians and audiences alike.
