Description
These Two Chorale Preludes are among the eleven such works for organ which Johannes Brahms (1833-1897) composed in 1896, a year before his death. They were published as Op. 122 in 1902. "A Lovely Rose is Blooming" ("Es ist ein Ros' entsprungen") is restful in nature, serene and restrained, with a fine musical effect resulting from the interweaving of the contrapuntal lines. "O God, Thou Holy God" ("O Gott, Du frommer Gott") is more dramatic in nature, with the chorale quite in evidence. This transcription for band was completed by Ralph Guenther.
