About the Composer: Robert Sheldon
Robert Sheldon stands among the most frequently performed composers in wind band repertoire today. His works appear regularly on contest lists and concert programs worldwide, and his commissions continue to shape the landscape of band music. Beyond composing, Sheldon has shaped music education directly as lead author of Sound Innovations for Concert Band, a resource used in countless classrooms.
His contributions have earned recognition from the American School Band Director's Association, Phi Beta Mu, and ASCAP. Sheldon maintains an active schedule as guest conductor for All-State and Regional Honor Bands, and his clinician work has taken him across the United States and to Japan, Canada, Italy, Germany, Australia, and China. His compositions have been performed at Carnegie Hall, Orchestra Hall in Chicago, Boston Symphony Hall, the Sydney Opera House, and the Kennedy Center. VanderCook College of Music awarded him an honorary doctorate in 2020.
