About the Composer: Margaret Goldston

Margaret Goldston

Margaret Goldston (1932–2003) built her career as a composer and studio teacher, serving students across all levels in her North Carolina studio while establishing herself as a sought-after clinician. She completed her Bachelor of Music degree in piano performance at Louisiana State University and later studied composition privately with Pulitzer Prize winner Robert Ward, earning recognition as LSU's School of Music Alumnus of the Year in 1991.

Goldston's contributions to music education earned her the Composer of the Year award from the North Carolina Federation of Music Clubs in both 1983 and 1994. She led masterclasses and teacher workshops throughout the United States and Canada, and her compositional output continues to appear regularly on NFMC Junior Festivals lists and other contest repertoire. The Music Teachers National Association posthumously honored her as a Foundation Fellow in 2020.
