About the Composer: E. L. Lancaster

E. L. Lancaster shaped piano pedagogy in America for decades, first as Professor of Music at the University of Oklahoma, where he established the masters and doctoral programs in piano pedagogy and mentored over 50 doctoral candidates. His contributions to music education extended nationally through leadership roles in MTNA and the National Conference on Piano Pedagogy, and he received the Regents Award for Superior Teaching and a David Ross Boyd Professorship recognizing excellence across teaching, counseling, and student guidance.

After leaving Oklahoma, Lancaster became Executive Editor of Piano for Alfred Music while maintaining an adjunct faculty position at California State University, Northridge. His academic credentials include degrees from Murray State University, the University of Illinois, and a Ph.D. from Northwestern University. In 2013, Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia honored him as a Signature Sinfonian, and Murray State recognized him with their Distinguished Alumnus Award.
