William Owens brings three decades of classroom experience to his compositional work. A VanderCook College of Music graduate and Distinguished Alumnus, he spent 30 years directing bands in Texas before retiring in 2014 to focus on composing and clinician work. His catalog now exceeds 300 titles across concert band, string orchestra, and small ensemble, establishing him as a significant voice in young band repertoire.
Owens's practical approach to writing for developing ensembles has made his music a fixture on festival lists and required reading in music education texts nationwide. Active in ASCAP, TMEA, and Phi Beta Mu, he has received commissions from major organizations including the American Bandmasters Association and has been honored with the Texas Bandmasters Association's Meritorious Achievement Award. He currently resides in Fort Worth, Texas.
