About the Composer: Margaret Goldston

Margaret Goldston

Margaret Goldston spent her career composing, teaching, and mentoring musicians across North Carolina and beyond. A Louisiana State University piano performance graduate, she earned recognition as LSU's School of Music Alumnus of the Year in 1991 and studied composition privately with Pulitzer Prize winner Robert Ward.

Goldston's contributions to music education were substantial and widely recognized. The North Carolina Federation of Music Clubs named her Composer of the Year twice (1983 and 1994), and she was invited to speak at NFMC conventions and conduct masterclasses throughout the United States and Canada. Her works remain staples on junior festival competition lists and in elementary studios. In 2020, the Music Teachers National Association honored her posthumously as a Foundation Fellow.
