About the Composer: Erik Morales

Erik Morales grew up in New York City and began composing professionally while still in high school, when a former band director commissioned him to arrange for marching band in 1985. He went on to study composition at Florida International University and earned his bachelor's degree from the University of Louisiana, Lafayette in 1989. Since then, he has built a catalog of over 150 published works spanning classical, jazz, and commercial idioms for wind, orchestral, chamber, and jazz ensembles, with performances across the globe.

As a trumpeter and composer, Morales has earned recognition within the trumpet community; his chamber works won first place at the National Trumpet Competitions in 2006 and 2008, and his Concerto for Trumpet in C and Piano premiered at the 2009 International Trumpet Guild conference. In 2016, he was inducted into the Louisiana Association for Jazz Education's Hall of Fame. A substantial portion of his output reflects his commitment to educational music, striking a balance between artistic integrity and the practical needs of school ensembles.
