About the Composer: Erik Morales

Erik Morales has built a prolific career balancing artistic ambition with educational purpose. Born in New York City in 1966, he studied composition at Florida International University and earned his bachelor's degree from the University of Louisiana, Lafayette in 1989. His arranging work began shortly after high school when a former band director invited him to write for a marching band, a connection that launched him into the educational publishing world.

With over 150 published works across wind, orchestral, jazz, and chamber settings, Morales has established himself as a significant voice in both educational and concert music. His trumpet works are particularly notable; his trumpet ensemble compositions won first place at the National Trumpet Competitions in 2006 and 2008, and his Concerto for Trumpet in C and Piano was premiered at the 2009 International Trumpet Guild conference. In 2016, he was inducted into the Louisiana Association for Jazz Education's Hall of Fame. Schools and organizations across the country regularly commission his work, recognizing his skill at crafting pieces that challenge students musically while remaining accessible to developing ensembles.
