About the Composer: Erik Morales

Erik Morales has built a prolific composing career across multiple genres since the mid-1980s, when his high school band director first asked him to arrange music for marching band in south Florida. His output now exceeds 150 published works spanning wind ensembles, orchestral music, jazz, chamber settings, and solo literature. He studied composition at Florida International University and completed his undergraduate degree at the University of Louisiana, Lafayette in 1989.

Morales is particularly recognized for his contributions to trumpet repertoire; his ensemble works have earned first place finishes at the National Trumpet Competitions in 2006 and 2008, and his Concerto for Trumpet in C and Piano was premiered at the 2009 International Trumpet Guild Conference. His work consistently balances artistic integrity with pedagogical value, making his compositions accessible to developing ensembles without sacrificing musical substance. In 2016, he was inducted into the Louisiana Association for Jazz Education's Hall of Fame.
