Richard Meyer brings three decades of classroom experience to his work as a composer and conductor. He spent 22 years building the orchestra program at Oak Avenue Intermediate School in Temple City, California, expanding it from 29 students to 200, and directed the city's elementary string initiative. His tenure as music director of the Pasadena Youth Symphony Orchestra for 16 years took him across five continents, conducting performances in Vienna, Australia, and Canada alongside domestic honors orchestras.

Beyond the podium, Meyer has shaped string education through publications and innovation. He co-authored the String Explorer Series and Sight-read It for Strings, served as string editor for Alfred Publishing Company, and founded the "Giving Bach" program at his school, which has earned national recognition for using interactive concerts to reach special needs and underserved students throughout Southern California. His catalog includes over 190 published compositions and arrangements.
