About the Composer: Bob Phillips
Bob Phillips is a composer and pedagogue who has shaped string education through innovative repertoire and large-group teaching strategies. Since the 1980s, he has authored more than 25 instructional series for strings, including Sound Innovations and the eclectic styles collections Fiddlers Philharmonic, Jazz Philharmonic, Rock Philharmonic, Mariachi Philharmonic, and Latin Philharmonic. Over 200 of his works have been published for orchestras and bands, and he is an ASCAP award-winning composer whose pieces are performed regularly at the Midwest Clinic.
During his 27 years directing the string program in Saline, Michigan, Phillips built an ensemble of more than 700 students known nationally for excellence across classical and contemporary idioms. He founded the Saline Fiddlers Philharmonic, which performed internationally and at the White House. Phillips has guest conducted numerous all-state orchestras, youth symphonies, and prestigious summer festivals including Interlochen, Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp, and the Queensland Honour Ensemble Program.
