Technic Today, Part 1: Horn in F Book

This supplement does what a technical book should do: it builds fundamental facility without feeling disconnected from the method it supports. Each exercise in Part 1 mirrors the vocabulary horn students are already learning in Band Today, so there's no jarring shift in tonality, range, or rhythmic approach. Directors who use the full Contemporary Band Course will find this a natural, seamless way to deepen tone production and technical accuracy without requiring students to juggle two different musical languages.

Purposeful and direct. The exercises build on one another without unnecessary complexity, allowing horn players to concentrate on what matters: sound quality, articulation control, and smooth navigation of the horn's natural harmonic series. Horn players in intermediate bands who are working through Band Today, Part One and need focused work on technique between full-ensemble rehearsals. • Start each session with longer tones on the fundamental exercises before moving to the technical passages; let students hear what a solid, centered tone should feel like before they work on flexibility and tonguing patterns.
• Mark problem measures during individual practice and return to them at the start of the next lesson; technical books reveal weak spots quickly, and addressing them early prevents bad habits from solidifying.
