About the Composer: Adrian B. Sims

Adrian B. Sims (b. 2000) grew up in Seattle, Washington and developed his musical voice across multiple disciplines: composition, conducting, education, and trombone performance. His works have earned recognition at The Midwest Band and Orchestra Clinic, appeared on the Bandworld Top 100 List, and won awards through the Maryland Music Educators Association Young Composers Project and Make Music Young Composers Contest. As a trombonist, he has performed with pit orchestras, symphony orchestras, jazz ensembles, and concert bands; his high school years included multiple selections to the Maryland All-State Band and performances alongside the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra.

Sims is currently pursuing a dual degree in Music Education and Composition at The University of Maryland, where he studies composition with Dr. Robert Gibson and counts world-renowned composer Brian Balmages among his influential mentors. He studies trombone with Matthew Guilford, solo bass trombonist with the National Symphony Orchestra, and has actively conducted his own compositions in performances across Maryland schools. His band directors Christopher Gnagey and Cindy Stevenson have shaped his artistic development throughout his career.
