About the Composer: Brian Balmages

Brian Balmages has built an international reputation as a composer and conductor working fluidly across orchestral, band, and chamber music. His works have been performed by everyone from professional symphony orchestras to elementary school ensembles in halls like Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center, and Sydney Opera House. He holds membership in the American Bandmasters Association and received the A. Austin Harding Award from the American School Band Directors Association, along with winning the 2020 NBA William D. Revelli Composition Contest for Love and Light.

As a guest conductor, Balmages regularly leads all-state and regional bands, university ensembles, and professional groups worldwide. His music has appeared in significant national moments, including the 2013 Presidential Inaugural Prayer Service attended by President Obama and Vice President Biden. He currently serves as Director of MakeMusic Publications and Digital Education for Alfred and MakeMusic.
