About the Composer: Adrian B. Sims

Adrian B. Sims was born in Seattle in 2000 and has established himself as a composer, conductor, educator, and trombonist while still in his early twenties. A student at The University of Maryland pursuing dual degrees in Music Education and Composition, he studies composition with Dr. Robert Gibson and has received mentorship from Brian Balmages. His works have been performed at The Midwest Band and Orchestra Clinic, earned recognition on the Bandworld Top 100 List, and won multiple composition competitions including the Maryland Music Educators Association Young Composers Project and the Make Music Young Composers Contest.

As both a performer and educator, Sims brings practical experience from the ensemble chair. He has conducted his own works at schools throughout Maryland and performs with top ensembles at his university. His performance background spans jazz and concert bands, pit and symphony orchestras, and chamber groups. He credits his band directors Christopher Gnagey and Cindy Stevenson for their continued support of his musical development.
