About the Composer: Brian Balmages

Brian Balmages has built a rare career working across orchestral, band, and chamber music with equal fluency. His compositions have appeared on stages ranging from Carnegie Hall and the Kennedy Center to the Sydney Opera House, performed by ensembles spanning from professional orchestras to school groups. He is an elected member of the American Bandmasters Association and won the 2020 NBA William D. Revelli Composition Contest; his music was also featured in the 2013 Presidential Inaugural Prayer Service.

As both composer and conductor, Balmages maintains an active schedule guest conducting all-state and university ensembles across North America and internationally. He received the A. Austin Harding Award from the American School Band Directors Association and holds the inaugural James Madison University Distinguished Alumni Award. He currently serves as Director of MakeMusic Publications and Digital Education for Alfred and MakeMusic.
