About the Composer: Katie O'Hara LaBrie

Katie O'Hara LaBrie is a composer, conductor, clinician, and cellist based in Northern Virginia with deep roots in music education. She earned her Bachelor of Music in Music Education from St. Olaf College and her Master of Music in Instrumental Conducting from George Mason University, then spent 15 years teaching orchestra in Fairfax County schools before focusing on composition and conducting work.

LaBrie's creative voice emerges directly from her classroom experience. She writes music intentionally designed to be educationally valuable, engaging for students, and rewarding for audiences, drawing inspiration from family, nature, and the real needs of young musicians. Her work has earned recognition including multiple J.W. Pepper Editor's Choice selections, performances at the Midwest Band and Orchestra Directors Clinic and American String Teachers Association Conference, and a 2022 Yamaha "40 Under 40" honor. She founded the Fairfax Chamber Players and co-created "the Big IDEA" practice method.
