Description
These six graceful, peaceful, and energetic original waltzes are the perfect addition to any "potted-palm" gig, whether people are dancing or not. Soaring melodies cascade throughout the ensemble with rhythmic accompaniments. Because all six waltzes are moderately difficult (grade 4 and above), sight reading at the job is not recommended. Flute may be substituted for Violin 1, and Violin 2 may be substituted for Viola. Waltz titles: 1. The Tangled Waltz; 2. Second Anniversary Waltz; 3. A Miller's Waltz; 4. Age and Remembrance; 5. Gypsy Waltz; 6. County Clare Waltz.

More about this title

Why we love this

These waltzes solve a genuine programming need for string ensembles booking event gigs. Levin writes with real melodic generosity, giving Violin 1 soaring lines while the lower voices provide rhythmic support that feels genuinely musical, not merely accompaniment. The variety across six pieces means you can shape the evening's energy without abandoning coherence.

What to expect

Each waltz breathes with the character suggested by its title. Expect graceful phrasing, peaceful moments that showcase the intimacy of string writing, and passages with enough energy to move dancers or fill a reception space with genuine charm. The melodies soar without demanding virtuosity.

Who it's for

String trios and small ensembles looking for accessible, event-ready repertoire. Violinists comfortable at grade 3.5 level will find rewarding melodic material; cellists and violists gain experience balancing melody with rhythmic support in a real performance context.

How to get the most out of it

  • Learn all six pieces before the gig. Grade 3.5 material rewards preparation, and dancers will notice when parts aren't secure.
  • Balance the soaring Violin 1 line with responsive accompaniment from Viola and Cello; resist the urge to let the melody dominate everything.
  • Pay attention to the rhythmic drive that anchors each waltz. Clean ensemble attacks on accompaniment figures keep the pulse alive through tempo changes.

How to use it

These six pieces are designed for event work, but they also function beautifully in recital or school concert settings where you want accessible string music with genuine musicality. Program them as a suite to anchor an evening, or use individual waltzes as fillers between heavier repertoire.

Skills your students will build

  • Sustaining long melodic lines with consistent tone quality
  • Balancing melody and rhythmic accompaniment in ensemble texture
  • Managing waltz rhythm and three-beat phrasing
  • Responding to a strong melodic voice while maintaining rhythmic integrity
