About the Composer: Gary Fagan

Gary Fagan is a composer and educator from Maryland whose works have reached audiences at major venues including the Midwest Band and Orchestra Clinic, the White House, and Virginia's gubernatorial inauguration. He earned his undergraduate degree in Music Education from Bridgewater College and his master's degree from James Madison University.

Fagan spent 36 years directing bands in Albemarle County before transitioning to university teaching and mentoring. He has served as an adjunct faculty member at JMU, teaching arranging, and currently works as a University Supervisor there. His contributions to music education have been recognized with Outstanding Educator Awards from the Virginia Governor's School for the Visual and Performing Arts and the Piedmont Council of the Arts, as well as selection as Central Virginia Outstanding Middle School Teacher. He remains active as a clinician, adjudicator, and percussionist with the Charlottesville Band, where he also serves as Assistant Director. He holds membership in ASCAP, Phi Beta Mu, and the National Band Association.
