More about this title

About the Composer: Sally K. Albrecht

Sally K. Albrecht

Sally K. Albrecht has shaped American choral music for over three decades through her prolific output of accessible, performance-ready pieces. As Director of School Choral, Vocal, and Elementary Publications at Alfred Music, she developed a keen ear for what works in rehearsal and on stage. Her catalog of more than 600 publications reflects her deep understanding of choral pedagogy and her commitment to writing music that engages singers across skill levels.

A conductor and clinician as well as a composer, Albrecht has led honor choirs at prestigious venues including Lincoln Center, Carnegie Hall, and The Kennedy Center. An annual ASCAP Special Music Award recipient since 1987, she holds degrees from Rollins College and the University of Miami, where she studied music, drama, and accompanying. She has taught at Oakland University, Jersey City State College, and Meredith College. Albrecht currently resides in North Carolina and serves in leadership roles for national music honor societies.

Why we love this

Albrecht brings a theatrical sensibility to this novelty number that makes it a genuine crowd-pleaser without sacrificing musical substance. The recorded accompaniment tracks are expertly produced and support clean ensemble singing while keeping the energy high. Directors know Albrecht writes music that rehearses efficiently and performs memorably, making this an ideal choice when you need something upbeat, fun, and reliably effective.

What to expect

Playful and propulsive, with a contemporary pop sensibility that captures the frenetic energy of holiday shopping. The piece balances comedic intent with solid harmonic writing and rhythmic precision, delivering a performance that's entertaining without feeling lightweight.

Who it's for

Directors programming winter or holiday concerts who want an energetic, fun number that audiences will remember long after the concert ends. This works equally well for middle school, high school, and adult community choirs seeking a novelty piece with genuine musical craft behind the fun concept.

How to get the most out of it

  • Encourage singers to embrace the character of the piece through exaggerated diction and committed facial expressions; novelty works best when performers fully invest in the theatrical intent.
  • Use the recorded accompaniment to lock in the groove and maintain consistent rhythmic precision during rehearsals before transitioning to live accompaniment.
  • Layer the piece with simple staging or choreography that complements the shopping theme; Albrecht's choral movement expertise shines when singers can move intentionally with the music.
  • Record a rehearsal run-through and play it back for the choir so singers can hear how their blend and balance translates to an audience's perspective.

How to use it

Open a holiday concert with this number to immediately establish a warm, engaging tone with your audience. Pair it alongside more serious winter fare to provide tonal variety and remind listeners that choral music encompasses joy and humor alongside contemplation.
