About the Composer: Richard Meyer

Richard Meyer spent 35 years teaching strings across elementary, middle, and high school levels in California public schools. At Oak Avenue Intermediate School in Temple City, he transformed a program of 29 students into a thriving ensemble of 200, while simultaneously directing the city's elementary string curriculum. His work with the Pasadena Youth Symphony Orchestra over 16 years took students to performance venues across the United States, Europe, and Australia.

Beyond the rehearsal room, Meyer has shaped the field through clinician work at major conferences including the A.S.T.A. National Conference and regional All-State festivals. His "Giving Bach" program, launched in 2009, pioneered interactive concert models that bring music to underserved student populations throughout Southern California and has earned national recognition for its impact. As a composer, Meyer maintains an extensive catalog of over 190 published works and arrangements, and served 16 years as string editor for Alfred Publishing Company, including co-authoring the widely-used String Explorer Series.
