About the Arranger: Greg Gilpin

Greg Gilpin

Greg Gilpin brings decades of experience as both a choral conductor and arranger to everything he creates. His work has been performed at prestigious venues including Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, Ryman Auditorium, Sydney Opera House, Royal Festival Hall, and Harpa Concert Hall. As Director of Educational Choral Publications for Shawnee Press and an ASCAP award-winning composer, Gilpin has shaped the landscape of contemporary choral music for educators and singers across the country.

Beyond the concert hall, Gilpin has expanded his creative reach into film scoring, earning Best Score recognition for the short film "Rosie's Rescue" in 2021. He has also collaborated with celebrated opera singer Angela Brown on new arrangements of classical standards. A committed member of ACDA, NAfME, SAG-AFTRA, and a Life Loyal Member of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, Gilpin continues to compose, conduct, and teach with enthusiasm across multiple creative disciplines.

Why we love this

Gilpin knows how to pack musical personality into a holiday medley without overcomplicating the arrangement. His experience conducting at world-class venues translates into smart voice leading and singable parts that still feel fresh and contemporary. Directors can trust this arrangement to deliver genuine holiday charm at a professional level.

What to expect

The medley captures the genuine warmth and anticipation of the holiday season without veering into saccharine territory. You'll find moments of intimate storytelling alongside sections that invite the full, bright sound of the ensemble, creating a journey that feels purposeful and engaging rather than a simple stringing together of tunes.

Who it's for

This arrangement works for choirs that want contemporary holiday repertoire with real musicality and arrangement sophistication. Whether you're programming a winter concert, preparing holiday pops material for a semi-staged performance, or looking to add a secular, accessible medley to your season, this piece offers flexibility without sacrificing artistry.

How to get the most out of it

  • Balance the medley's varied moods by shifting the energy between sections; treat slower, sentimental passages with restraint before building momentum into the brighter material.
  • Use the recorded accompaniment to lock in ensemble timing, especially across section transitions where the medley shifts character.
  • Encourage singers to commit fully to the text and storytelling in each section; a medley succeeds when the narrative arc feels intentional, not rushed.
  • Attend closely to blend in the upper voices during the quieter moments; clarity and unity here will make the fuller sections land with greater impact.

How to use it

Program this during your holiday concert as a bridge between more formal repertoire and closing material, or feature it as part of a pops or celebratory set. The medley format makes it ideal for concerts aimed at family audiences who appreciate both musical substance and holiday spirit. It pairs well with other contemporary choral work and can anchor a thematic holiday program without demanding extensive staging or production.
