More about this title

About the Author: Andy Beck

Andy Beck

Andy Beck directs choral publications at Alfred Music and has composed and arranged more than 450 choral works, vocal resources, and children's musicals that are performed by singers across the globe. His educational resources include the widely adopted Sing at First Sight, Foundations in Choral Sight Singing, and Vocalize! 45 Vocal Warm-Ups That Teach Technique, all grounded in his commitment to music literacy and vocal pedagogy.

Beyond the page, Beck works as a guest conductor, choreographer, adjudicator, and clinician for music educators nationwide and has served as commissioned composer and guest conductor for all-state honor choirs and chamber ensembles throughout the Southeast. A tenor and musical theatre director himself, he has sung with the North Carolina Master Chorale Chamber Choir and served as an Alfred Music studio singer since 1992. His degrees in music education from Ithaca College and Northwest Missouri State University anchor a career devoted to choral artistry and arts education.

Why we love this

Beck and Fisher craft a musical that actually engages fourth graders and up without sacrificing musicality or charm. The unison and 2-part writing accommodates mixed-ability choirs while the contemporary premise (Santa navigating email and websites) gives students a story they instantly recognize, making rehearsals feel relevant rather than quaint.

What to expect

Energetic and playful, with a modern twist on Christmas tradition. Santa's digital mishap becomes an opportunity for lighthearted humor and genuine warmth, creating a show that feels current and spirited rather than saccharine.

Who it's for

Choir teachers working with grades 4 and up who need a full-length holiday musical that accommodates unison and 2-part singing. This preview pack is ideal for directors evaluating the work before committing to a full production, as it includes the Singer's Edition and recorded accompaniment.

How to get the most out of it

  • Use the included listening CD during early rehearsals so singers hear the full arrangement and can place their own part within the texture; this accelerates part-learning.
  • Stage the computer classroom and North Pole setting simply with props or projections so singers stay focused on singing rather than elaborate blocking.
  • Encourage singers to find the humor in the text; light comedic delivery in the dialogue passages will draw the audience in and lift the energy of the whole show.
  • Break the 35-minute runtime into discrete musical numbers during sectional rehearsals so singers understand the shape of the piece and anticipate their entrances.

How to use it

Schedule this as your winter concert finale or a full-length holiday assembly program; at 35 minutes, it can anchor an entire performance or pair with shorter choral pieces. The included staging suggestions make it feasible for schools with modest production resources, and the contemporary premise works well for audiences of all ages.
