About the Composer: Mary Donnelly

Mary Donnelly grew up in Reno, Nevada, and studied English and French at the University of Nevada before discovering her passion for music education. After earning a Master's Degree in Education from Lesley College in Cambridge, Massachusetts, she taught general music and choir in elementary and middle schools for three decades in the Washoe County School District. Her coursework at Lesley centered on integrating arts across the curriculum, a philosophy that deeply shaped her approach to composition.

In 1985, Donnelly began collaborating with George L.O. Strid while co-teaching a sixth grade general music class. What started as a request to write a musical for Reading Week (The Million Dollar Mystery) launched a partnership that has produced over two hundred songs and twenty-five musicals. Both active members of ACDA, NEA, and ASCAP, Donnelly and Strid have become trusted voices in choral education, known for crafting repertoire that singers genuinely enjoy performing.
