About the Composer: Erik Morales

Erik Morales was born in New York City in 1966 and has established himself as a prolific composer working across classical, jazz, and commercial idioms. With over 150 published works spanning wind ensembles, orchestral groups, jazz combos, and chamber settings, he has built a catalog that reaches performers and audiences internationally while maintaining a steady stream of commissions from schools and organizations across the country.

Morales studied composition at Florida International University and earned his bachelor's degree from the University of Louisiana, Lafayette in 1989. His composing trajectory began immediately after high school when a former band director engaged him to arrange marching band music in south Florida (1985), a role that led to increasingly visible work in educational music publishing starting in 2002. As a trumpet player, Morales has made particularly strong contributions to the trumpet repertoire; his trumpet ensembles earned first place honors at the 2006 and 2008 National Trumpet Competitions, and his Concerto for Trumpet in C and Piano was premiered at the 2009 International Trumpet Guild conference. In 2016, he was inducted into the Louisiana Association for Jazz Education's Hall of Fame.
