About the Composer: Erik Morales

Erik Morales has developed a compositional voice marked by distinctive melodic lines and harmonic language that resonates with audiences across multiple genres. Born in New York City in 1966, he began arranging for his high school marching band in south Florida in 1985, an experience that launched his career in educational music publishing. He studied composition at Florida International University and earned his bachelor's degree from the University of Louisiana, Lafayette in 1989.

With more than 150 published works spanning wind, orchestral, jazz, and chamber ensembles, Morales has built a reputation for balancing artistic substance with pedagogical clarity. His trumpet writing has earned particular recognition, including first-place performances at the 2006 and 2008 National Trumpet Competitions and commissions from ensembles nationwide. In 2016, he was inducted into the Louisiana Association for Jazz Education's Hall of Fame in recognition of his contributions to music education and performance.
