Jorge L. Vargas is a Mexican American composer and arranger with degrees in Music Education from The University of Texas-San Antonio and a Master's in Education from Lamar University. He has taught at Memorial Junior High in Eagle Pass, Texas, where he directed the concert band and mariachi ensemble while coordinating beginner instruction. His compositions span concert band, marching band, string orchestra, and mariachi formats, earning recognition on state and festival lists, the J.W. Pepper Editor's Choice list, Bandworld Magazine's Top 100, and performances at the Midwest Clinic in Chicago.

Vargas was born in Piedras Negras, Coahuila, Mexico, and brings a deep understanding of both traditional and contemporary ensemble writing to his work. His experience as both a classroom director and clinician informs his approach to composing for developing musicians.
