Erik Morales

Erik Morales (born December 10, 1966, in New York City) brings a harmonic sophistication and melodic sensibility to every genre he touches, from classical to jazz to commercial music. Since his high school days in south Florida, when a band director first hired him to arrange marching band music in 1985, Morales has built a catalog of over 150 published works spanning wind ensembles, orchestral and chamber settings, jazz groups, and string orchestras. His music has been performed internationally and commissioned regularly by schools and organizations across the United States.

With trumpet as his primary instrument, Morales has made particular contributions to the trumpet repertoire; his trumpet ensemble works have won first place at the 2006 and 2008 National Trumpet Competitions, and his Concerto for Trumpet in C and Piano premiered at the 2009 International Trumpet Guild conference. He holds a degree in composition from Florida International University and a bachelor's degree from the University of Louisiana, Lafayette (1989). His work consistently balances artistic merit with educational value, a philosophy that earned him induction into the Louisiana Association for Jazz Education's Hall of Fame in 2016.
