About the Composer: Adrian B. Sims

Adrian B. Sims grew up in Seattle before moving to Maryland, where he graduated from Catonsville High School in 2018. As both a composer and trombonist, he has built recognition through performances at major clinics like the Midwest Band and Orchestra Clinic and inclusion on the Bandworld Top 100 List. His compositions have won awards from the Maryland Music Educators Association Young Composers Project and the Make Music Young Composers Contest.

Currently pursuing a dual degree in Music Education and Composition at the University of Maryland, Sims studies composition with Dr. Robert Gibson and has drawn mentorship from Brian Balmages. As a performer, he has participated in the Maryland All-State Band multiple times and collaborated with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra. His teachers Christopher Gnagey and Cindy Stevenson have been instrumental in shaping his work as an emerging composer.
