About the Composer: Brian Balmages

Brian Balmages maintains an uncommon versatility across orchestral, band, and chamber music composition and conducting. His works have appeared in prestigious venues including Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center, and Sydney Opera House, performed by ensembles ranging from professional orchestras to elementary school groups. He received the A. Austin Harding Award from the American School Band Directors Association and won the 2020 NBA William D. Revelli Composition Contest for Love and Light.

As an elected member of the American Bandmasters Association, Balmages has guest conducted at the Midwest Clinic, College Band Directors Conference, and regional all-state ensembles worldwide. He holds distinguished alumni recognition from both James Madison University and the University of Miami, where he composed music for the institution's presidential inauguration. His work was performed during the 2013 Presidential Inaugural Prayer Service. Balmages currently serves as Director of MakeMusic Publications and Digital Education for Alfred and MakeMusic.
