• Anchor your listening to the open strings. Play an open G, then shift to play a G on the E string. If they don't sound identical, your finger placement and bow are both speaking.

Assign sections as supplementary daily practice alongside your main method book, rotating which exercises get focus each month. Many teachers return to these etudes whenever they notice a regression in tone quality or intonation within a student's playing, even years after first introduction.
