Gary Fagan brings four decades of band directing experience to his compositions, having shaped young musicians across Albemarle County for 36 years before transitioning to university supervision. His work has reached audiences at major venues including the Midwest Band and Orchestra Clinic, the White House, and gubernatorial ceremonies, reflecting a career dedicated to both performance and education.

Fagan holds degrees in Music Education from Bridgewater College and a master's from James Madison University, where he now supervises student teachers and teaches arranging as adjunct faculty. His contributions to music education have earned recognition including Central Virginia Outstanding Middle School Teacher, Outstanding Educator Awards from Virginia's Governor's School and the Piedmont Council of the Arts, and dual listings in Who's Who Among America's Teachers. Beyond composing and arranging, he remains active as a clinician, adjudicator, and percussionist with the Charlottesville Band.
