About the Composer: Alan Baylock

Alan Baylock has spent decades at the intersection of high-level jazz performance and music education. He directed the Grammy-nominated One O'Clock Lab Band at the University of North Texas and previously served 20 years as Chief Arranger for the Airmen of Note, the United States Air Force Band's premier jazz ensemble in Washington, D.C. Leading his own Alan Baylock Jazz Orchestra for over 15 years, he recorded three critically acclaimed albums and established himself as a composer and arranger of international stature.

Beyond the bandstand, Baylock has shaped jazz education as a guest conductor to more than 100 ensembles at professional, collegiate, and high school levels, as faculty with the National Jazz Workshop, and as Jazz Composer-in-Residence at Shenandoah University. In 2022, he co-founded Brava Jazz Publishing with composer and arranger Annie Booth to champion women's voices in big band jazz. His own compositions and arrangements have been performed by world-class soloists including Melissa Aldana, the Brecker Brothers, Paquito D'Rivera, Kurt Elling, and Joshua Redman, and he remains an active advocate within the Jazz Education Network.
