About the Composer: Brian Balmages

Brian Balmages has built a reputation as a composer and conductor equally at home in orchestral, band, and chamber music contexts. His works have been heard everywhere from Carnegie Hall and the Kennedy Center to elementary school gymnasiums, performed by ensembles ranging from professional orchestras to beginning student groups. He holds membership in the American Bandmasters Association, received the A. Austin Harding Award from the American School Band Directors Association, and won the 2020 NBA William D. Revelli Composition Contest for Love and Light.

As a conductor, Balmages maintains an active schedule guest conducting all-state ensembles, university groups, and professional orchestras across the globe, with appearances at the Midwest Clinic, Western International Band Clinic, and numerous international venues. His work has also reached presidential contexts, performed during the 2013 Presidential Inaugural Prayer Service and commissioned for the inauguration of the University of Miami's sixth president. He currently serves as Director of MakeMusic Publications and Digital Education for Alfred and MakeMusic.
