About the Composer: Brian Balmages
Brian Balmages has established himself as a composer and conductor whose work crosses seamlessly between orchestral, band, and chamber idioms. His compositions have reached audiences worldwide, from professional symphony orchestras to school ensembles, in landmark venues including Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center, and the Sydney Opera House. He received the A. Austin Harding Award from the American School Band Directors Association and won the 2020 NBA William D. Revelli Composition Contest. An elected member of the American Bandmasters Association, Balmages holds the James Madison University Distinguished Alumni Award and has been commissioned by the University of Miami for significant institutional occasions. His music appeared in the 2013 Presidential Inaugural Prayer Service.
As a conductor, Balmages maintains active relationships with all-state ensembles, university groups, and professional orchestras internationally, with notable guest appearances at the Midwest Clinic, Western International Band Clinic, and the College Band Directors Conference. He currently serves as Director of MakeMusic Publications and Digital Education.
