About the Authors
Carol Matz is an accomplished composer and pianist who has created over 300 published works for piano students. Drawing on her extensive experience as a piano educator, she brings both pedagogical expertise and creative vision to her compositions and arrangements. Her Famous & Fun series, published by Alfred Music, has become well recognized in music education circles.
Throughout her career, Matz has shared her knowledge by conducting piano-teaching workshops across the United States, Canada, England, New Zealand, and Australia. Her compositional palette spans multiple genres and ensembles, including orchestral, jazz big band, brass quintet, and string quartet works. Additionally, she has created studio arrangements for various recording artists based in Miami.
Matz studied composition, arranging, and orchestration at the University of Miami, providing the foundational training that informs her diverse body of work.
Throughout her career, Matz has shared her knowledge by conducting piano-teaching workshops across the United States, Canada, England, New Zealand, and Australia. Victoria McArthur recently retired from her position as Program Director of Piano Pedagogy and Coordinator of Group Piano at Florida State University's College of Music. One of the nation's most prestigious music schools, FSU provided the setting for her distinguished academic career in keyboard instruction and pedagogy.
Her scholarly contributions span over 80 publications, including her widely acclaimed co-authorship of Alfred's Premier Piano Course. Dr. McArthur has served as Keyboard Editor for Alfred Music Publishing since 2000 and contributed extensively to leading music education journals and journals. Her expertise appears in The Science and Psychology of Music Performance published by Oxford University Press, where she authored the chapter on sight reading. For years, she also reviewed new music for the prestigious Piano Quarterly.
Dr. McArthur remains actively engaged in piano education through her private studio, McArthur & Musical Associates, which serves the Tallahassee area with instruction for students of all ages and levels. She holds the Permanent Professional Certificate in Piano and Music Theory from the Music Teachers National Association. Beyond her teaching practice, she has contributed her knowledge internationally, presenting piano workshops throughout Korea for Alfred Music Publishing in 2006.
