About the Authors
Carol Matz is an accomplished composer, arranger, and author with more than 300 published piano works for students. Drawing on her background as an experienced piano educator, she has developed materials that serve teachers and learners worldwide. Her Famous & Fun series, published by Alfred Music, represents some of her most recognized contributions to music education.
Throughout her career, Matz has shared her teaching expertise through workshops conducted across the United States, Canada, England, New Zealand, and Australia. Her compositional scope extends beyond solo piano to include orchestral works, jazz big band arrangements, brass quintets, and string quartets. She has also contributed studio arrangements for various recording artists in Miami.
Matz studied composition, arranging, and orchestration at the University of Miami, where she developed the diverse musical skills that inform her prolific output.

Victoria McArthur recently retired from her position as Program Director of Piano Pedagogy and Coordinator of Group Piano at Florida State University's esteemed College of Music. She holds the Permanent Professional Certificate in Piano and Music Theory from the Music Teachers National Association and brings decades of expertise to the field.
Her scholarly contributions include over 80 publications, among them the widely recognized Alfred's Premier Piano Course. Dr. McArthur has served as Keyboard Editor for Alfred Music Publishing since 2000 and has written numerous articles for leading music education journals. Her work appears in prestigious venues such as Piano Quarterly, and she contributed the chapter on sight reading to Oxford University Press's The Science and Psychology of Music Performance.
Today, Dr. McArthur maintains her commitment to teaching through her own piano studio, McArthur & Musical Associates, which serves the Tallahassee area with instruction for students of all ages and levels. She continues to develop educational materials and textbooks while remaining active in the music education community. In 2006, she traveled to Korea to conduct piano pedagogy workshops for Alfred Music Publishing.
