Gayle Kowalchyk

Dr. Gayle Kowalchyk has shaped piano pedagogy across multiple institutions and contexts. She holds degrees in piano performance from Ohio University and Northwestern University, along with an Ed.D. in piano pedagogy from Teachers College, Columbia University. She has served on the faculty at Eastern Illinois University, Oklahoma Baptist University, the University of Oklahoma, and California State University, Northridge, where she teaches class piano, private instruction, and piano pedagogy. She was also an instructor at the National Music Camp in Interlochen during the summers of 1979-1982.

Kowalchyk's influence extends far beyond the university classroom. A respected clinician and adjudicator, she has presented at national conventions of the Music Teachers National Association, Music Educators National Conference, the National Group Piano Symposium, and the World Piano Pedagogy Conference. With her husband, Dr. E. L. Lancaster, she has authored more than 300 educational piano publications, including the widely adopted Alfred's Premier Piano Course and Music for Little Mozarts. Currently based in the Los Angeles area, she continues her work as a clinician for Alfred Music.
