About the Composer: William Owens
William Owens has shaped the landscape of young band music through decades of practical, classroom-tested writing. A Gary, Indiana native and VanderCook College of Music alumnus, he brought three decades of band directing experience in Texas to his prolific compositional output; since 1993, he has written over 300 works for concert band, string orchestra, and chamber ensembles that appear on required lists across North America and internationally.
Owens's approach to composition reflects his deep understanding of what young musicians need to succeed. His work has earned recognition from the American Bandmasters Association, Texas Music Educators Association, and ASCAP membership, with numerous commissions from regional colleges and national bandmasters organizations. He currently resides in Fort Worth, Texas, and remains active as a clinician and conductor.
