William Owens, born in Gary, Indiana in 1963, has built a prolific career as a composer, clinician, and conductor. A graduate of VanderCook College of Music (1985), he spent three decades directing bands in Texas before retiring in 2014, earning recognition as a Distinguished Alumnus and recipient of the Texas Bandmasters Association's Meritorious Achievement Award.

With over 300 compositions for concert band, string orchestra, and small ensemble to his name since 1993, Owens has established himself as a trusted voice in young band literature. His work appears on required music lists across the country and in educational texts, grounded in a practical understanding of what young musicians need to develop both technically and musically. He holds membership in ASCAP, TMEA, and Phi Beta Mu International Bandmasters Fraternity.
